National Electrical Code becomes The New Standard

<<Blog Topic>>

Are you familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC)?

If not, your organization should be aware that the NEC has recently become a minimum standard requirement in Texas. This means that it is now law and must be adhered to by all electrical professionals.

September 11th, 2017: “The Texas Electrical Safety and Licensing Act requires the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to adopt the revised National Electrical Code (NEC) as the electrical code for the state of Texas. Previously, NEC was an optional code to abide by, but due to the Texas Electrical Safety and Licensing Act, the NEC is now the electrical code for the state of Texas. Also, Chapter 1305.201 gives municipalities the authority to make amendments to the 2017 NEC in accordance with the NEC 90.4.

Any non-exempt electrical work started on or after September 15th will have to be in accordance with the 2017 NEC “minimum standards”. The start of electrical work is the day the electrician begins to install electrical materials or equipment. Electricians are expected to uphold the new NEC requirements, as well as, the local code amendments.”

As of October 1, 2017, examinations for state electrical licenses will be based on the 2017 National Electrical Code. ATEC Training & Certification Services will train all professionals in accordance with the 2017 NEC standards, as outlined by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.” 2017 Electrical Code is Almost Here.
